A pool sits well inside a backyard design when people can move around it comfortably, find shade nearby and see it from the house. That means circulation width around the coping, a shaded place to sit that is not on the hot deck, a line of sight from the kitchen or the family room and a relationship between the water and the entertaining space that does not force everyone through a single pinch point.
